Ad Targets

Cleaning up the Air

With Congressional action on climate change and so many other environmental policy issues stalled, we can forget the remarkable progress made by the leaders of the environmental movement within our lifetimes.

Check out the excellent series “We Used to Be China” from public radio’s Marketplace, chronicling the progress made in the US to reduce air pollution.

An excerpt:
When we see photos of Beijing shrouded in a veil of thick smog, we’re horrified. How can the Chinese live with such terrible air pollution?
One answer is: Americans did. Back in the 1950s and '60s, people in Los Angeles breathed some of the dirtiest air in the world.
